I am Chris Ramirez. I’m a Mexican-American photographer from the San Francisco Bay Area. I specialize in analog photography using traditional techniques to make my photographs. I develop and scan my own film, as well as make prints of my photographs by hand in my darkroom.
I discovered my passion for photography over 10 years ago where I grew up, in the Napa Valley. I spent many of my early years in photography photographing the beautiful scenery found in wine country before moving to the fascinating city of San Francisco.
Although I was born and raised in California, I’ve held tight to my Mexican roots. I take great pride in being Mexican and incorporate my culture into my photography. I’ve spent many winters in my family’s home-state of Oaxaca, Mexico documenting both the urban and rural lifestyles of the Oaxacan people. My life-goal is to have a collection of film negatives documenting the ever-changing state of Oaxaca. Nothing would bring me greater joy than to have a tangible piece of Oaxaca that I can pass along to my family long after I’m gone.
When I’m not working on my passion project, I’m a freelance photographer with a concentration in portrait photography. I find the interpersonal exchange between myself and my clients very rewarding, a joy that I truly don’t receive from photographing still-life’s or other inanimate subjects for that matter. There’s a sense of accomplishment that comes from creating an idea and bringing it to life through a photograph that my client and I can keep forever. If you would like to work together, feel free to contact me and we can discuss details on how to bring your vision to life.
